My artist agenda has always been the promotion of cartoons as an art form. Cartoon imagery is a keystone of pop culture, and I dissect this popular icon through what I term "Cartoon Literalism."
My personal reaction born of an eclectic mix of cliche cartoon protocol and individual aesthetic Cartoon Literalism is a simple narrative based on a collection of metaphors placed together to present an idea and image.
The use of cartoons to express thoughts or belief is a large part of our social and political editorial process. The freedom one has to express an idea through arbitrary means is the basis of cartoons as art form and a motor for its inevitable extension into future styles.
Over the past three years, I have focused my career toward working with kids in the Bay Area. Painting cartoons has given me a chance to access a variety of different venues, and allowed me the opportunity to extend my talents to art education.
I have traveled to various art institutions like the de Young Museum, Yerba Buena Center, and the Palo Alto Art Center teaching intensive workshops on the subject of cartoons. The experiences with students and the relationships we have developed continually enrich my career and expand the scope of my goals.
